Climate lawsuits may surge if humans blamed

OSLO (Reuters) - A 2007 U.N. report with stronger evidence that humans are causing global warming is likely to spur more lawsuits around the world such as a case to be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday, a legal expert said. Lawsuits from Australia to California are already testing how far courts agree with most scientists’ view that human activities — led by burning fossil fuels in power plants, factories and vehicles — are warming the planet. “We’re going to get more and more of these cases,” Peter Roderick, director of the Climate Justice Program which is linked to environmental group Friends of the Earth, told Reuters on Tuesday.

What are we going to do? Sue the government or individual users of vehicles since they know they pollute? I know lets all get together and sue Al Gore for driving an SUV or was that his wife Tipper (side note : who the hell names their child after a tonka toy??)

“The stronger the evidence of human influence gets, the more relevant the question will be for courts,” he said. Some lawyers, he said, viewed climate as the next billion-dollar source of litigation after tobacco or asbestos

Well No shit. Human influence has changed the climate? Wouldn’t that be like saying wow the volcanoes and rain forests changed the environment.

In one of the most important U.S. environmental cases in decades, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on Wednesday over whether a dozen states, three cities and several environmental groups can force the government to regulate emissions of carbon dioxide from cars and trucks.

I thought we already regulated carbon dioxide? Hmmm.. I know.. maybe if we stopped filling zillions of lawsuits we could reduce the amount of trees being smashed into pulp for the paper?? Perhaps we could sue the lawyers for using so much paper in frivolous lawsuits!

Likability poll bad news for Kerry

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Sen. John Kerry, mulling a second bid for the U.S. presidency, finished dead last in a poll released on Monday on the likability of 20 top American political figures. Among those placing ahead of Kerry were about a dozen potential 2008 White House rivals, including Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona. “This is bad bad news for Kerry,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute in Hamden, Connecticut, which conducted the survey. “Americans know who he is, and have pretty much decided they don’t like him,” said Brown. He noted the poll found that 95 percent of respondents said they had heard enough about Kerry, who lost the 2004 White House race to President Bush, to rate the Massachusetts Democrat

Is this really a surprise? The man is a walking liability, even if I was a Democrat I would run for the hills from this idiot. To quote a great film “A brief shining moment.. and then that mouth!”

I felt compelled to write this after having an argument in a forum with someone who looks to be successful in life but starts to fall into this whole : Muslims are the problem etc etc mindset. Now I am by no means the most politically correct person out there. I do believe if you move to a country then you follow their laws. If you like that country then you integrate into society and if you don’t like it then fuck off back to where you came from. America is a melting pot and we should not switch the burner off. Blacks, Chinese and many other immigrants all experienced racism and some still are. Racism tends to be associated with black/white but in reality there are all kinds of racism. Religious racism, geo-racism even within your own borders, social status racism and so on.

Yes there are some radical muslims who want to force a religious war with the west. Does that mean you tar all muslims as being killers? No.. Did everyone tar all christians when timothy mcveigh decided to bomb the federal building? No they didnt! Christian Identity and other movements or so called religions out there all preach and teach hatred and violence towards other as do the fanatical muslims.

Why? Is it easier to identify the whole religion? I mean in previous wars it was easier to identify the enemy. The Germans, Japanese and so on. I think its far scarier when you can’t identify the enemy properly. Look at Vietnam and the confusion that reigned over who was really VC and who was your friend. Iraq.. No different.. lets play “Whos the nice Iraqi?”. Fear gives way to a need to catalogue and define who to target and therefore Islam (Muslim) becomes the more definable target that the relatively few nutjobs.

Scary times ahead.

A man and his wife are dining at a table in a plush restaurant, and the husband keeps staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sits alone at a nearby table.

The wife asks, “Do you know her?”

“Yes,” sighs the husband, “She’s my ex-girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up seven years ago, and I hear she hasn’t been sober since.”

“My God!” says the wife, “Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?”

The 4400 - The Complete First Season

Over the last century, thousands of people have gone missing. Suddenly and inexplicably, 4400 missing people are returned all at once, as they were on the day they vanished. Each has been gone anywhere from a few months to several decades but hasn’t aged a day. These are the stories of 4400 abductees after they are returned to Earth. People dealing with traumatic changes, driven by the mystery of what happened and why. Some of them have been affected in mysterious ways, and some will have certain abilities, both good and bad. Unclear what this world-altering even means, the government investigates the 4400 to piece together where they’ve been and why they’ve been returned. It quickly becomes apparent that their presence will change the human race in ways no one could have ever foreseen.

This is a very mind grabbing season! It has gotten mixed reviews probably because the returnees don’t effect HUGE changes BUT there is a far more subtle issue of the butterfly effect happening and you need to keep an eye on what the future potential of the small changes on a day to day basis are.

Season One is a mini series. Only about 6 episodes but it is growing. Season two is available on DVD now. Season four is supposedly underway.
